I need your help in honoring the Supreme Queen of Daughter's of the Nile (DON). The event is this Friday, February 20th, at the Shriners Children’s Hospital at 1:45 - 2:15. Kathy Walliker is the Supreme Queen of The DON and a Portland Native.
Kathy’s queens, her court, are honoring her with a rose garden of about 25 roses at the hospital. They have asked the Rosarians to come be honor guard for the ceremony.
Where: 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd, Portland, OR 97239
Time: 1:45 - 2:15 (Arrive no later than 1:25 so we can get to the spot on time)
Attire: Whites, capes, hats, gloves (no greens)
Notes: Parking is tight and they said they could open up 3-4 parking spaces under the building. Carpooling would be preferable. There will be TV coverage.
The ceremony is also in honor of Nydia Temple's, the Portland DON group name, donation of over $1M.

The Sellwood Community House, 1436 SE Spokane Street Portland, Oregon, will give the Rosarians use of their facility outdoors (or the lobby if there is inclement weather) to host an Open House on March 14th between noon and 2:00 pm, where past winners and structural engineers will talk with potential racers and their parents on the methods of building a milk carton boat. Alpenrose is delivering milk cartons in time for kids to get started designing and working on their milk carton boats during Spring Break. This Open House is an opportunity to get some milk cartons shared with some families who can get started on this family project. We have need of a few Rosarians to greet the families when they arrive and answer any questions we can answer or refer them on to the past winners or structural engineers to talk about technical questions. |

Join us for the fabulous annual St Patrick's Day Parade!! This delightful neighborhood parade is short and sweet and full of fun. Date: Sunday, March 15th Time: Parade kicks off at 1:30, please gather no later than 1:00 P.M. Where: Meet on NE Hancock and NE 33rd (next to Beverly Cleary (Fernwood) School Dress: Whites, capes, hats, gloves (or greens if you don't have whites yet!) Parking: Street parking in the neighborhood, allow time to find a spot. Other: This is a flat, 1.2 mile parade that loops so you end up at the starting spot (so handy!). Dame Jill E. Johnson passed away on September 18th, 2025 in Portland Oregon. Dame Jill was Knighted under the rose, Peace, in 2003. She was several years from being a Life Member. Although not a visible active member, Jill and husband, Squire Erik , participated in events early in their membership and volunteered in community events as well. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday March 29th at the Irvington Club Ballroom located at 2131 NE Thompson St Portland from 11am to 4pm. The Portland-Kaohsiung Sister City Association has invited us to join them in the annual Dragon Boat Eye Dotting Ceremony which includes the blessing and the launch of the Dragon Boat Fleet to kick-off of the 2026 Portland Rose Festival Dragon Boat Race season. What began as a cultural exchange initiative immigrated from Kaohsiung Taiwan to Portland Oregon in 1989, has now blossomed into a cherished local Portlander's springtime tradition.

Eastwood Elementary School is one of the recipients of our Field Trip Check Program. JCC (Just Create Community) founder, Cindy Cosenzo, (who will be honorarily knighted in June) started the greeter program at Eastwood Elementary. The school enlists different greeters every Wednesday morning to welcome students and families as they arrive at school. These greeters include the Mayor, the Fire Department, Police Department, etc. We have the honor to be the Community Greeters at Eastwood Elementary on April 8 to welcome students and families as the arrive to school. Thompson Elk Statue Fountain Homecoming Celebration The iconic Thompson Elk Statue is returning to its original location in downtown with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and street celebration. Date: Sunday, April 12, 2026, 1:00-4:00pm Ribbon Cutting Time: 1:30 - 2:30 pm (Rosarians arrive by 12:30 pm SHARP) Location: Chapman and Lownsdale Squares, SW Main St. between Third and Fourth Avenues. Attire: Whites with capes, gloves, and hats. As part of the event, Rosarians will greet VIPs and special guests, and be a positive presence in the audience. Our Prime Minister, along with nine other Rosarians, will serve as Honor Guard / background during the speeches and the formal ribbon cutting. The program will start promptly at 1:30pm and should be complete by 2:30pm. PLEASE NOTE: Honor Guard participation during the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony is limited to 10 participants with priority given to our current Prime Minister, Dukes & Duchesses and Council. The Royal Rosarians partner with the Portland Sea Cadets, a youth organization focused on building character, leadership, and life skills through teamwork and community activities. The Sea Cadets have supported events like the Milk Carton Boat Races for the past three years. They are hosting their Second Annual Dinner and Auction on April 16 in Portland, featuring a Roaring ’20s theme. The event runs from 5–7 PM, with $50 admission including dinner, and a cash-only bar. At the end of the unit each student creates a shoebox parade float representing their family then the first grade parades through the school. The entire school and many family members come to cheer. The Royal Rosarians have had the honor of marshaling this parade for the last several years. Join us for a wonderful day judging the 88th Annual Rose Garden Contest - If you wish to sign up to judge, please either reach out to Kathy Schach, Kerri Burke or register in Club Runner. Please note, when you sign up, we will be depending on you to attend judging day and will assign you gardens to visit with your judging team. Please sign up no later than May 23 to allow time for judging day organization. No experience required. You may enter your garden into the contest - your garden will be assigned to a separate judging group. If you bring a guest - they will be assigned to your team. We will gather at at 9:00 AM for judging training and light refreshments After training we will do a live demo in the Rose City Cemetery garden, take a group photo, and then set off with our assigned teams to 4-5 gardens in the Portland - Metro Area to judge. What: Students of Laurelhurst Elementary School will bring in hundreds of roses in their 81st Annual Rose Show, to be judged by the Portland Rose Society. Rosarians will clerk for the judges and serve as honor guard for the awards ceremony. PRS President Kimberly Bown and Royal Gardener Kimberly Takla will be onstage to hand out awards. When: Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Arrive by 8:30AM. Judging takes place from 9:00AM-10:30AM, with awards presented during various grades' lunch periods. Departure around 1PM. Everyone is invited to celebrate the winners of the 88th Annual Rose Garden Contest at the Royal Rosarian Garden at the International Rose Test Garden at Washington Park. This free Royal Rosarian & Portland Rose Festival event is open to the public & press. In 1938, the Royal Rosarian Rose Garden Contest was established as the first sponsored, citywide event to honor the rose, the “Queen of Flowers.” The contest was so popular that it immediately became an annual event. The Royal Rosarians are committed to continually improving the contest to showcase the best amateur rose gardens and commercial plantings in Portland, the City of Roses. The contest promotes greater appreciation of growing roses, honoring those citizens who help beautify Portland through their rose-growing efforts, and upholds the signature Royal Rosarian slogan “For You a Rose in Portland Grows!” Royal Rosarians encourage all rose growers in the Portland Metropolitan Area to enter this contest. Royal Rosarians are asked to wear their green jacket / black pants / Council please wear your whites - this is a public facing event and a great opportunity to share who we are. If you would like to arrive early to help with set-up - we will be gathering at 4:30 PM and appreciate your help. Homemade treats are welcome if you would like to contribute. Portland's Best Rose is a wonderul opportunity for Rosarians in their white uniforms to be present in the rose garden, while particpating in judging the best rose and interacting with hundreds of guests visiting the garden. There is no ceremony to attend. Rosarians could stay for 30 minutes to an hour or more depending on their schedules. Ballots will be distributed at 10AM and collected all day. Come march with us at the Good in the Hood! This year the theme is Roots, Rhythm, and Power so expect to see lots of high energy performances, chants, enthusiasm, and some excellent outfits. Where: Meet at Lillis Albina Park at 2231 N Flint Ave, next to Harriet Tubman Middle School (specifics will be sent to everyone who registers closer to parade date) When: Saturday, June 27th. The parade starts at 11:00, so be at the start no later than 10:30 AM. Dress: Whites, capes, gloves, hats - or greens if that's what you've got. Details: The parade runs along NE MLK from NE Prescott to NE Knott. The float is going to Tillamook for the Dairy Days celebration, so registrants must be able to march. Kik will be leading the parade in a car. |

The parade starts at 11:00, so plan to arrive no later than 10:30 AM. Where: I don't have staging information yet, but will send out an email prior to the event with details! Dress: Whites, capes, gloves, hats - or greens if that's what you've got. 2026 Royal Rosarian Milk Carton Boat Race - June 28th The committee is planning the Boat Race for this coming June and we can use some help. If you want to be a volunteer on the day of the event, please register here! We have different positions where we can use your help and we'll find a spot that fits you. We'd love to have the regulars who come every year and all the Rosarians who haven't attended before who can make it. This is a special day and we're anticipating a good turnout of racers. Come join your Rosarian friends for a Purely Social and Parade in honor of our nation's birthday. When: July 4, 2026 Time: Parade starts at 10:00, but see notes below about early arrival at the Horton's for pre-parade gathering. Dress: Whites, capes, hats, and gloves (green for those who are suitless). Most people bring a change of clothes for the post parade Social (no ketchup on those white suits!!) Read on for details about arrival time, parking, and most importantly, the PURELY SOCIAL!! You are invited to the Horton's house for a Purely Social before and after the parade! Coffee and buns will be ready when you arrive. Plan to arrive before 8:30, as the police start closing off roads at that time, and it may get tricky to drive near the house.

Take Highway 26 to Jackson School Road, Jackson School Road to right turn onto Evergreen Road, Evergreen Road for 200 yards to left turn onto Jackson School Road (yes, Jackson School Rd. again), take Jackson School Road to stop sign at NE Grant, cross over Grant for one long block and left turn onto Edison Street, 2 blocks to easy left turn onto Birchwood Drive. Note that additional roads may be closed due to a Fun Run that starts at 7:30. Maps are your friend!! Even if you are coming from the South please come around to approach from the North. You will save yourself time and aggravation. Don’t be the ugly Rosarian! Parking: on street, along or near Birchwood Drive. The Horton's house is within the parade route, so if you need to leave before 12:30, park by/on Delsey Road.

Penticton Peach Festival is an annual South Okanagan Valley tradition, which began in 1947, to celebrate the peach harvest in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada. When: Saturday, August 8th Time: Parade starts at noon, please arrive by 11:00 (or better yet, come at 9:00 to enjoy the Rose Planting!) Dress: Whites, capes, hats, and gloves (or greens, if you don't have white) Meeting Spot: We'll have the specifics closer to the date Post Parade Fun: there isn't an official meet up after the parade, but there are a number of pubs and restaurants along or near the parade spot in which to unwind with your friends. Stay all weekend! Astoria has some great hotels and super cute BandBs, and the Regatta includes a full slate of fun events, including yacht races, a fun run, and a boat parade.
