The Sellwood Community House, 1436 SE Spokane Street Portland, Oregon, will give the Rosarians use of their facility outdoors (or the lobby if there is inclement weather) to host an Open House on March 14th between noon and 2:00 pm, where past winners and structural engineers will talk with potential racers and their parents on the methods of building a milk carton boat.

Alpenrose is delivering milk cartons in time for kids to get started designing and working on their milk carton boats during Spring Break. This Open House is an opportunity to get some milk cartons shared with some families who can get started on this family project. We have need of a few Rosarians to greet the families when they arrive and answer any questions we can answer or refer them on to the past winners or structural engineers to talk about technical questions. 

Join us for the fabulous annual St Patrick's Day Parade!! This delightful neighborhood parade is short and sweet and full of fun.

Date: Sunday, March 15th

Time: Parade kicks off at 1:30, please gather no later than 1:00 P.M.

Where: Meet on NE Hancock and NE 33rd (next to Beverly Cleary (Fernwood) School

Dress: Whites, capes, hats, gloves (or greens if you don't have whites yet!)

Parking: Street parking in the neighborhood, allow time to find a spot.

Other: This is a flat, 1.2 mile parade that loops so you end up at the starting spot (so handy!). There won't be a float so everyone must be able to walk the route. Parade takes approximately one hour.

Dame Jill E. Johnson passed away on September 18th, 2025 in Portland Oregon. Dame Jill was Knighted under the rose, Peace, in 2003. She was several years from being a Life Member. Although not a visible active member, Jill and  husband, Squire Erik , participated in events early in their membership and volunteered in community events as well. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday March 29th at the Irvington Club Ballroom  located at 2131 NE Thompson St Portland  from 11am to 4pm. Our sincere condolences to Squire Erik and their entire family.

Thompson Elk Statue  Fountain 

Homecoming Celebration

The iconic Thompson Elk Statue is returning to its original location in downtown with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and street celebration.

Date: Sunday, April 12, 2026, 1:00-4:00pm

Ribbon Cutting Time: 1:30 - 2:30 pm (Rosarians arrive by 12:30 pm SHARP) 

Location: Chapman and Lownsdale Squares, SW Main St. between Third and Fourth Avenues.

Attire: Whites with capes, gloves, and hats.

As part of the event, Rosarians will greet VIPs and special guests, and be a positive presence in the audience.  

Our Prime Minister, along with nine other Rosarians, will serve as Honor Guard / background during the speeches and the formal ribbon cutting.  

The program will start promptly at 1:30pm and should be complete by 2:30pm.

PLEASE NOTE: Honor Guard participation during the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony is limited to 10 participants with priority given to our current Prime Minister, Dukes & Duchesses and Council.  

Please remember to carpool or plan for extra time to park

There is a family-friendly community event from 1-4pm.  Once the ceremony is complete, Rosarians are free to leave or stay to check out community booths, grab a bite from local food carts, snag free stuff, take some elk selfies (“elkies,” if you will) and more!

The Royal Rosarians partner with the Portland Sea Cadets, a youth organization focused on building character, leadership, and life skills through teamwork and community activities. The Sea Cadets have supported events like the Milk Carton Boat Races for the past three years.

They are hosting their Second Annual Dinner and Auction on April 16 in Portland, featuring a Roaring ’20s theme. The event runs from 5–7 PM, with $50 admission including dinner, and a cash-only bar. The 82nd Avenue of Roses is celebrating their 20th year hosting a parade and other celebrations of all things East Portland! Their theme this year is: History of East Portland. Come join the fun and march in the parade.

When: Saturday, April 25th. The parade kicks off at 9:30, please be there by 8:45 am! 

Where: Meet on SE 80th between SE Cora and SE Holgate. We are #21.

Dress: Whites, gloves, hats, and capes - or greens for those who are suitless.

Parking: Free Parking at Eastport Plaza Mall. Note that SE 82nd will close starting 8:30.

After Parade Socializing Spot: Meet the marching group post parade for lunch, drinks, and/or snacks at The Observatory 8115 SE Stark.

**TIME CHANGE**

Please join us for this very special parade at Arleta School.  

Each year Arleta first graders do a unit study on family, traditions, and symbolism.  At the end of the unit each student creates a shoebox parade float representing their family then the first grade parades through the school. The entire school and many family members come to cheer. The Royal Rosarians have had the honor of marshaling this parade for the last several years.

The parade will be Saturday morning at 11:00 am, buses leave the hotel for the start of the parade at 10:00 am. Nothing can be handed out to spectators during the parade including sticky roses.

Sponsored by the Portland-Guadalajara Sister City Association, this is an activity for K–12 students across the Portland metro area. Schools plan a cultural field trip to the park, where students get to enjoy an exclusive mariachi and ballet folklórico performance. The assembly takes place from 10:00–11:00 AM, just before the park opens to the general public.

Rosarians will welcome students as they arrive as well as support some light logistics, such as guiding groups and assisting with seating.

Join us for a wonderful day judging the 88th Annual Rose Garden Contest - If you wish to sign up to judge, please either reach out to Kathy Schach, Kerri Burke or register in Club Runner. Please note, when you sign up, we will be depending on you to attend judging day and will assign you gardens to visit with your judging team. Please sign up no later than May 23 to allow time for judging day organization.

No experience required. You may enter your garden into the contest - your garden will be assigned to a separate judging group.

If you bring a guest - they will be assigned to your team.

We will gather at at 9:00 AM for judging training and light refreshments

After training we will do a live demo in the Rose City Cemetery garden, take a group photo, and then set off with our assigned teams to 6-8 gardens in the Portland - Metro Area to judge. Please reserve until mid afternoon for this event.

What: Students of Laurelhurst Elementary School will bring in hundreds of roses in their 81st Annual Rose Show, to be judged by the Portland Rose Society. Rosarians will clerk for the judges and serve as honor guard for the awards ceremony. PRS President Kimberly Bown and Royal Gardener Kimberly Takla will be onstage to hand out awards.

When: Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Arrive by 8:30AM. Judging takes place from 9:00AM-10:30AM, with awards presented during various grades' lunch periods. Departure around 1PM. Laurelhurst will provide lunch and refreshments.

Please join Prime Minister Ron Fisher and City Hall officials for the annual Sister City reception on Thursday, June 4th, at 12:30pm at City Hall, arriving from the east side entry.

Rosarians are needed to form an honor guard in the entry of City Hall to welcome in visiting delegations from our sister cities and help usher them into the lobby where Mayor Keith WIlson and other dignitaries will speak on topics that affect our communities both locally and internationally. There will be a reception after the short ceremony with light finger foods and refreshments.

Rosarians for the honor guard are asked to arrive by noon in full whites, hats, capes, and gloves. We also need a Drill Master.  Let me know if you are interested.

On Thursday, June 4th, the Royal Rosarians present Rose Festival Fun Night dinner and dance! All are welcome. This event is included in the Royal Rosarian Hospitaliity Packet. Register through the Hospitality registration.

The theme this year is "White Night Masquerade". Imagine a Venitian masquerade, but the costumes are white with flashes of gold or silver. Proper attire is either White Masquerade, or Festival Casual, with masks.

Come prepared for good food, good music, entertainment, and good fun!

As per our tradition, the Prime Minister has chosen a number of worthy citizens and guests to be recognized with honorary knighthood to the Royal Rosarians. "A Strawberry Celebration!" is our theme this year to remind our community about this time honored tradition. This celebration unified our beautiful city and brout us together with a powerful sense of community and pride in our hometown.

Oaks Park Roller Rink is the oldest in the country and features a 100 X 200 square foot Wisconsin rotunda maple wood floor. The rink is home to a 1926 Wurlitzer pipe organ initially built for Portland’s Broadway Theater and was relocated to the roller rink in 1955. The Oaks Park Roller Rink is the last roller rink in the world to feature a live pipe organist during select skating sessions.

Portland's Best Rose is a wonderul opportunity for Rosarians in their white uniforms to be present in the rose garden, while particpating in judging the best rose and interacting with hundreds of guests visiting the garden. There is no ceremony to attend. Rosarians could stay for 30 minutes to an hour or more depending on their schedules. Ballots will be distributed between 10AM and 2PM and collected all day.  Members wear whites, capes, hats and gloves. New members without a white suit please wear green jacket and black pants.

This event is owned by Portland Parks & Rec, but organized by past Portland Rose Society Presidents, Friends of the IRTG and the Curator Rachel.

Come march with us at the Good in the Hood! This year the theme is Roots, Rhythm, and Power so expect to see lots of high energy performances, chants, enthusiasm, and some excellent outfits.

Where: On NE 6th Ave between NE Wygant and NE Going (near the elementary school)

When: Saturday, June 27th. The parade starts at 11:00, so be at the start no later than 10:30 AM. 

Dress: Whites, capes, gloves, hats - or greens if that's what you've got. Bring rain gear!

Parking: parking is on the street, so allow time. The organizers are offering a shuttle which runs from 8 am to 7 pm. Shuttle runs from Lilli Albina Park to 8th and Wygant, so  you can either park at the end and shuttle back or vice versa. 

Pre-parade: Duke Dwight Terry is offering donuts and coffee to early risers at his office, Terry Family Funeral at 2337 N Williams Ave. This is close to the end of the parade. Come early, park, and take the shuttle to the staging area!

Other Details: The parade runs along NE MLK from NE Prescott to NE Knott. 

The float is going to Tillamook for the Dairy Days celebration, so registrants must be able to march. Ron and Kelly will be leading the parade in a car as the float is going to Tillamook, so there are no seats for non-marchers.

After Party! In previous years, marchers have gathered at Lazy Days Brewing after the parade. 2326 N Flint Ave. The brew pub does not take reservations; consult amongst yourselves about alternatives if it's too crowded. 

Come join us to march the Tillamook Dairy Days Parade! This year their theme is Stars, Stripes, and Dairy Delights. Everyone is guaranteed to have a Moo-velous time!

When: Saturday, June 27th. The parade starts at 11:00, and they want us lined up by 10:15 AM. 

Where: We meet at Staging Area #3 which is in a parking lot on 11th St between Madrona and Nestucca

Dress: Whites, capes, gloves, hats - or greens if that's what you've got. Bring rain gear, just in case!

2026 Royal Rosarian Milk Carton Boat Race - June 28th

The committee is planning the Boat Race for this coming June and we can use some help.

If you want to be a volunteer on the day of the event, please register here!

The Rosarian volunteers are asked to be at the Pond at 8:30 am to start setting up and non-Rosarian volunteers can come at 9:00 am and help finish setting up the area or set up their own information. Ask for help from the Rosarians if you need it.

We have different positions where we can use your help, and we'll find a spot that fits you. We'd love to have the regulars who come every year and all the Rosarians who haven't attended before who can make it. This is a special day and we're anticipating a good turnout of racers. We appreciate all who want to join in this day of joy.

Come join your Rosarian friends for a Purely Social and Parade in honor of our nation's birthday.

When: July 4, 2026

Time: Parade starts at 10:00, but see notes below about early arrival at the Horton's for pre-parade gathering. 

Dress: Whites, capes, hats, and gloves (green for those who are suitless). Most people bring a change of clothes for the post parade Social (no ketchup on those white suits!!)

Take  Highway 26 to Jackson School Road, Jackson School Road to right turn onto Evergreen Road, Evergreen Road for 200 yards to left turn onto Jackson School Road (yes, Jackson School Rd. again), take Jackson School Road  to stop sign at NE Grant, cross over Grant for one long block and left turn onto Edison Street, 2 blocks to easy left turn onto Birchwood Drive.

Note that additional roads may be closed due to a Fun Run that starts at 7:30. Maps are your friend!!

Even if you are coming from the South please come around to approach from the North.  You will save yourself time and aggravation.  Don’t be the ugly Rosarian!

Transition Projects is looking for volunteers to help sort clothing donations in their warehouse. This is an ideal project for a group of 15 volunteers who want to make a direct, immediate impact.

You’ll be helping process bags of donated clothing so items can be quickly sorted by size and style, making them ready for distribution to participants experiencing homelessness. Your work ensures people get the clothing they need with dignity and without delay.

It’s hands‑on, high‑energy, and incredibly meaningful — every item sorted is one step closer to someone staying warm, dry, and supported.

If needed, the closest address to navigate is Capital Way S & 14th Ave. SE, Olympia, WA 98501. After the planting it is an 8-10 minute walk to the start of the parade. Parade starts at 5:00 pm Saturday. Nothing can be handed out to spectators during the parade. This includes sticky roses.

There will be a van for Rosarians wishing to march in both the Battleground and Olympia Lakefair parades. The cost will be $15. Go to the Battleground parade webpage to register. There is room for 12 riders. Please arrive at the Holiday Inn Jantzen Beach by 7:50 AM. We typically have lunch at the Margarita Factory in Battleground after the parade and then travel to Olympia in time for the Rose Planting at 3:15. We will leave Olympia after the parade, and usually stop for dinner on the way home, often at the McMinnimans in Kalama. Expected arrival back in Jantzen Beach by 9-9:30 PM.

Come join us for the Battle Ground Harvest Days Parade! Even better, make it a full day, come for the rose planting, and then travel north for a second parade of the day in Olympia as part of Capital Lake Fair!! We have a van that holds up to twelve people going to all the events if you want to travel as a group.

Where: The rose planting will be at: Central Park 414 E. Main Street, Battle Ground. The parade staging area is near the High School 300 W Main Street. If you're not going to the planting, check in with registration to find our spot (or call me: 503-381-3074)

When: The rose planting is at 9:00, so please arrive at Central Park no later than 8:30.. Parade starts at 10:00. We will walk over together after the ceremony (approximately 9:30).

Parking: there is limited parking at the high school, plus additional street parking. Note that Main Street and surrounding areas will be closed starting at 9:00. (Or sign up for the van!)

Post Parade Gathering: at Margarita Factory 11 N Parkway Ave, Battle Ground

Celebrate 100 years of the Oaks Park Carousel on National Carousel Day! Since 1926, this treasured landmark has delighted generations of families, and we're marking its milestone with a day of special activities honoring its remarkable history.

Free carousel rides all day from 12-8 PM.  Explore historical displays highlighting the Carousel's century-long legacy, pick up a commemorative souvenir button while supplies last, and take a memorable ride alongside Portland's Royal Rosarians from 2:00–3:00 PM. Washington Park International Rose Test Gardens

We will welcome guests of Portland’s Hyatt Regency Hotel and conduct an official greeting as part of their tour of the International Rose Test Gardens guided by Duchess Kimberly Bown.

Portland’s Hyatt Regency Hotel is hosting a group of convention organizers who book and plan large conferences.  The Hyatt is bringing these folks into town to show off Portland as a potential location for future conferences. 

The Hyatt is bringing two groups of 20 people for tours of the garden; the greeting will take place between the first and second tour.

We will mingle with guests, hand out sticky roses, and pose for photographs. Afterward, we will form an Honor Guard at the base of the stairs while the Prime Minister delivers our Official Greeting.

Penticton Peach Festival is an annual South Okanagan Valley tradition, which began in 1947, to celebrate the peach harvest in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada.

Thank you for visiting Penticton and attending Peachfest to support our festival. It's Penticton! It's the Okanagan! It will be hot and lots of fun in the sun. All events are casual.

Spend the day (or the weekend!) in the charming and historic city of Astoria, march in the Astoria Regatta Parade, and participate in two honorary rose plantings!

Time: Parade starts at noon, if you are just coming for the rose plantings, please arrive at the staging area by 11:00

Rose Planting: Come join Kik's rose planting team for their debut at not one, but two rose plantings! The first one will be at Flavel House, 714 Exchange St. Please arrive by 8:45 as the ceremmony starts at 9:00. The second planting starts directly afterward at the home of Daniel Moore at1064 Harrison Avenue. This home was previously owned by Hattie Wise, the Regatta Queen in 1908. A portrait of Queen Hattie will be unveiled at the event.

Parade Staging Area: We'll have the specifics closer to the date

More Fun! Paulie Davis has generoulsy offered to host us again this year at the Moose Lodge at 420 17th Street. Starting at 8:00 am, the Moose will provide a full breakfast for $12 plus Paulie will cover our drinks!!! The bar is open until the end of the parade, so we can head straight there once we are done marching to continue the fun. If we have at least 20 people signed up, Paulie will also provide us with a free Hawaiian-themed lunch!!!

Local radio personality Craig Walker passed away on July 22, 2026.   Craig was proud to become an Honorary Knight in 2023 under the rose “Barbara.” His family has reached out to ask that a few Rosarians attend the celebration of life service in his honor.

Location:  First Presbyterian Church

Attire: Whites with capes, gloves, and hats.

This is a more private event for friends, family, and those known to Craig, so it is an honor to be invited to participate - there will not be a role for the Rosarians during the service beyond representing our organization in full regalia (whites, gloves, capes - hats off when indoors.) If possible, please sit together as a unit.

Complimentary parking will be available at the church (SW 12th and Morrison)

IMPORTANT UPDATE:  The route to Mike's house has a road closure sign at the intersection of Minter Bridge Road and Grabel.  Local traffic is allowed; pass around the sign to continue on Minter Bridge Road to Hillecke Rd, then continue on to Mike & Colleen's house.
